 Unmet Needs

Responding to the needs of residents living in the South Dallas and Fair Park communities requires a broad spectrum of services and programs to relieve poverty, teach practical life values and promote intellectual, social and spiritual enrichment in this depressed community. CCDC plans specifically to target these needs through the following:

If you wish to respond to any of these unmet needs please contact us for more information. (Contact information is listed at the bottom of this page) Or you may DONATE NOW with your credit card by clicking the donate button at the bottom of this page.

  • Building of the Cornerstone Community Center, a multi-purpose building to include recreational facilities for youth, kitchen and social service facilities for community feedings and food distribution, clothing distribution, medical and dental clinics, classrooms for job training, computer training, GE.D. and E.S.L. classes, day care, literacy tutoring and after school programs, and a volunteer office for coordinating work with individuals and partner institutions, businesses and churches across the city.
The property for the Cornerstone Community Center has already been secured and approximately $175,000 has already been pledged by those who believe in revitalizing the South Dallas community through the building of the Center. The projected cost of the entire project is $5 million that will be split into three phases of development. CCDC hopes to raise money to complete the first phase for $900,000.
Cornerstone Community Center

  • Cornerstone needs additional funding for current programs where many community services are already being offered, but on a minimal basis because of limited current facilities and inadequate operating expenses. Hundreds more could be served with the addition of more adequate facilities. The current Cornerstone Care Center on the corner of Grand and Ervay Streets is a remodeled apartment building that was developed as a ministry project of Cornerstone Baptist Church.

Crowded units in this building serve as a medical office, food pantry, clothes closet, computer lab, and kitchen to provide twice-weekly meals for the homeless. Upstairs units serve as accommodations for mission groups who frequently come to help with ongoing remodeling projects and program services for children and adults in the neighborhood. Program funding and upkeep of the building continue to be a financial need for the Care Center.

A second apartment building across Grand Avenue currently is being remodeled to serve as a Homeless Ministry Center and transitional living quarters for homeless people who now find shelter under nearby bridges and abandoned buildings. Funds are needed for the completion of remodeling for this Homeless Ministry Center.

  • Facility improvements. Cornerstone needs a pickup truck to help with the transportation of building materials, moving of equipment, and the delivery of food and clothing.  Cornerstone needs new fencing around the facilities to provide adequate security (see photos below). Cornerstone needs landscaping and gravel laid for an adequate parking area at the Cornerstone Care Center.
