Dear Supporters,
To say, “THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR OVERWHELMING SUPPORT on Thanksgiving morning”, would be an understatement. Your presence with us far exceeded our imaginations and prayers. The response from so many of our Partners in the Ministry in serving the inner-city community of South Dallas/Fair Park was EXCEPTIONAL!!!!! We were humbled that so many would be willing to give up part of this holiday to serve "the least, the last, and the lost." One of the homeless ladies from the community was in tears as she expressed appreciation for the meal and the service of love. She mentioned that although she did not have family to go home to on that day, she counted herself blessed to be touched and loved by others. Another man mentioned that the experience provided him a glimpse of heaven on earth.
THANKS so much for the many ways in which you serve. Your flexibility, heart of compassion and concern, and just showing up was a blessing to many. THANKS for serving the homeless on the church's site. THANKS for taking meals to the Fair Park Nursing Home. THANKS for delivering meals door-to-door at the Park Manor Senior Living Apartment Complex. THANKS for bringing baked goods. THANKS for assisting in distributing coats, blankets, and clothing. THANKS, THANKS, THANKS.
I should also mention that since the Thanksgiving Day Outreach was so successful in helping us to reach out to the neighborhood that we are planning on doing a Texas Style BBQ Luncheon for the homeless and community Christmas Eve from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. (We know that this is late notice and hope that this timeframe does not interfere with your church's Christmas Eve service.) We are anticipating the arrival of a newly built BBQ Pit next week that was personally built by Mr. Mike Davis, the winner of the KC Masterpiece American Royal National BBQ Championship.
If you would like to join us for this outreach and help, I have included some ways in which you might consider assisting.
1) Provide Homemade Baked Goods -- It would be great if you bring the items already sliced or wrapped for ease of distribution. The idea of someone taking the time to bake items sends a very positive message to those we are trying to reach.
2) Provide Homemade Christmas Cards with a Positive Message that mentions the Birth of Jesus and How His coming into the World offers HOPE!!!!!! For many who have given up on life the message of HOPE certainly is important and we have found that those who receive these personal handwritten notes cherish them for months to come.
3) Come and Help us Serve. Many of the homeless spend time standing in line to receive a meal all year long. We like to have them come in and take a seat while volunteers serve and converse with them. Many are eager to share their testimony and you will be amazed at their stories of victory and triumph.
Please contact us by filling out our volunteer form, write us an email, or call the church office at 214-426-5468, if you are planning on joining with us, to let us know that you are coming and how you would like to help.
Thanks again so much, Chris L. Simmons, Pastor
